Cardboard processing

Due to its mechanical strength and surface softness, cardboard is used not only as packaging material but also finds applications where lightweight yet strong frameless materials are required. Typical examples include shop displays and advertising posters, such as life-sized figurine-shaped advertisements.

When making a cardboard product, the raw cartonnage is processed first. Cardboard can be used without any further surface treatment, simply cutting and bending it to the desired shape. In some cases, cardboard is directly printed on; this includes packaging for large products such as bicycles. However, if better print quality is required, the cardboard surface needs to be modified by laminating it or adding material by coating. Cardboard modified in this way allows printing at a quality corresponding to that on the applied material.
